Article 28: Every child has the right to an education.
Year 6 enjoyed a visit to the Oriental Museum today to learn more about the Early Islamic Civilisation which is our history topic this half term.
We began by exploring the artefacts in the museum, looking for key information about some of the objects on display. We then handled some objects back in the classroom, using our experience from the main museum to deduce what the objects were, what they could be used for and where they may have originated from.
After lunch, we explored the tessellated tile designs which are used in many Arabic buildings, ensuring that designs were non-sentient (not containing animals and people). When placed together, these tiles created larger, repeating patterns, no matter which way they had been arranged.
We finished off the day with a retelling of the beginning of 1001 nights, with the story of the vizier’s clever plot to change King Shahryar’s mind through many unfinished stories. Our retelling also ended unfinished, leaving the children on a cliffhanger in the same way as the characters in the tale.
