Article 28: All children have the right to an education , through a range of experiences and topics.
Year 1 visited the Life Centre in Newcastle today to develop/deepen our understanding and knowledge about Space.
Space is our history topic this half term and we enjoyed exploring the space exhibition. We began by trying to complete different challenges in the Creativity Zone, before heading to the Space Zone where we had lots of fun presenting the weather live on TV in the mock-up studio! We were also able to sit on a space toilet which we found quite funny as well as explore the digital globe – the Sphere. Entering Mission Control area allowed us to use our skills to try out a number of different missions. We then had a chance to go inside a replica of the International Space Station where were able to project our face onto the astronaut walking in space outside via an interactive display. The Jobs in Space section showed us the different jobs in the space industry… we enjoyed being able to dress up as space astronauts and engineers.
We visited the Planetarium to watch a short film which was projected on a circular dome which really made us feel like we were in space. We had fun the Pop up Play area – we were able to design and build rockets ready for blast off! We enjoyed the interactive zones and activities which inspired us to explore, invent, create and design.
After our visit today we have many children in Year 1 who have aspirations to become astronauts when they grow up…..watch this space!
