Article 31: We have the right to take part in a range of artistic activities.
To link with our history unit, The Great Fire of Gateshead, we have been looking at a painting by an unknown artist of the fire. We looked at the colours used and thought about how the artist had used ‘warm’ colours to show the flames. We also thought about the types of lines used: we thought they were more ‘wavy and bendy’ to show the movement of the fire and smoke.
We used charcoal pencils to sketch the scene. We used the pencils lightly and more firmly to create the different shades of light and dark that we could see.
Once we completed the sketch of the scene, we used warm toned coloured pencils to add the fire which was effective in making it stand out.
