Studying Inventors in Year 6

Fri 4 Sep 2026 | English, Year 6

Article 28: Children have the right to develop skills through their education.

As part of our English topic of exploring the life of Louis Braille through the text ‘6 Dots’, we began the term by looking at other young inventors and how they came to develop their ideas.

The children worked in groups to explore George Nissen – the inventor of the trampoline and Chester Greenwood – the inventor of the modern earmuff. They researched their information, recording their notes using bullet points to summarise key facts before showcasing their research as a short non-chronological poster. The children used their own initiative to make their designs engaging: including lift-the-flaps, extending their poster, 3D effects and sketches.
