The children at South Street have enjoyed making poppy wreaths, glass jars and painted poppy pebbles in the days leading up to Remembrance Day.
We talked about how the red poppy symbolises remembrance, hope for a peaceful future and commemorates the soldiers who fought and died in wars.
During our whole school assembly, we were able to discuss and look at local war veteran’s memorabilia including medals, photographs and newspaper articles highlighting their bravery.
Some of our children proudly laid their poppy wreaths at Remembrance services in our local area including the Gateshead Cenotaph.
