Article 31: Every child has the right to rest, relax, play and to take part in cultural and creative activities.

We opened up our new mud kitchen this week. The children were really excited to play and learn in it. They learned that to keep dry and clean they needed to wear appropriate clothing. This involved working out how to put the waterproof clothes on correctly and managing zips. They children set to work making different recipes. Some children made ‘tea’ and ‘coffee’ others made ‘cupcakes’ and some children made ‘pumpkin pie’ just like we heard about in our key story ‘Big Pumpkin’. The children manipulated tools and overcame challenges such as thick mixtures. They learnt how to make the mixture thinner by adding water and learned that some resources hold more water than others. The children were excited to serve their food through the serving hatch to their customers. We learned lots of new words to name tools and resources, and to describe texture, capacity and weight . The children used their imagination when finding natural materials to add to their recipes too. They found ways of sharing the resources and learned a lot about taking turns. What a lot of learning in a little muddy kitchen!
