Article 31 (leisure, play and culture): Every child has the right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and
artistic activities.
Article 29 (goals of education): Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full.
At Nursery we have a wonderful paint area that we can use to explore colour mixing, pattern making, printing and picture painting. There are a range of tools that we can use to make marks and creative artworks. In order to use the tools safely and successfully, we learnt how to choose the resources we needed from the shelf. We looked at a sequence of pictures to help us to remember what to do. We learned that we need to get a palette to put our paint in and to measure a small amount of paint each time.
We explored applying paints with brushes, sponges and printing tools. We mixed colours and talked about how they changed. Some children painted using the easel and others painted on a flat table.
Once our paintings were complete, the children remembered to put their paintings on the drier and then washed their dishes. We can now use the paint area independently and are building up out very own Nursery art gallery.
