Article 29: We should be taught to respect others.
Today, Year 5 and 6 were visited by the community police to talk about bullying and hate crime. We shared our ideas about what is meant by both bullying and hate crimes. We found out that a hate crime is a crime committed against someone because of their race, faith, disability, gender identity or sexual orientation.
We read through a range of situations and decided whether they were bullying, a hate crime or neither and why. We learned that the age of criminal responsibility is ten.
We discussed what we can do if we feel we are a victim of bullying or a hate crime and the trusted adults we could talk to. We also know that we can call the police on 999 if it is an emergency or 101 if it is not an emergency.
