What a great afternoon we had with Jeff Rich, who used to play the drums in Status Quo, as he took us on a tour of drums throughout history and showcased his drumming talent. We learned about the drums through time including the African slit drum; the djembe drum and the African talking drum. Jeff also showed us ways drummers would grip the sticks – some drummers, including military drummers, would use an orthodox grip whilst others would use a match grip. A few of us were able to play the drums he showed us.
He also showed us the different drums that made up his drum kit including a bass, a snare and a tom drum as well as the cymbals.
At the end of the session, we all loved getting up and being able to play a percussion instrument to accompany Jeff on the drums.
