Article 31: We have the right to take part in cultural activities.
We had a wonderful Japanese workshop led by Andy from Gateshead Library today. He told us some information about Japan including its location, climate and population and we also learned some common phrases.

We then made a Teru Teru Bozu ‘doll’ which is said to be a tradition followed by famers to influence the weather – in particular, rain. If the doll is hanging the right way, the rain will stay away; if the doll is upside down, the rain will come.

We then had a go at origami – the Japanese art of paper folding. We made a ‘twirly’ bird.

Finally we learned a little bit about Manga and Anime and made our own four panel comic strip.

Andy has invited us all to the Japanese Kids’ Club which is beginning on Monday 5th October (4:30-5:30) at Gateshead Central Library.
