March 8th is International Women’s Day. In partnership with Barclay’s Girls Football, The FA, and Gateshead Schools Sports (GatesheadSSP), we took part in the #LetGirlsPlay event, promoting girls and women in sport. All children and staff were invited to come into school in sporting outfits to represent and join in some footballing activities at break and lunch times.

Here at South Street, we had ‘Girls Take Over The Cage’ where the girls used our MUGA area for some football games, supported by Miss Ashbridge and Mrs Stevenson. We had some larger group football games, some penalty practices and some kick-abouts all ongoing at the same time. Also, it wouldn’t be Friday without Miss Wales’s ‘Friday Football’ club to finish off our day. It gave us the chance to share our differences not just in gender, but in footballing support, and appreciate that the world is a better place when people are different to each other and we can celebrate being different, yet equal.
