Over the last half term in Year 1, we have been learning about the work of artists and have been looking at the work of a Brazilian artist called Beatriz Milhazes.

Beatriz sketches, then paints onto acrylic sheets before printing onto a blank canvas. This technique enables Beatriz to use a range of bright, vibrant colours to create an abstract design that she layers and overlaps resulting in a colourful collage. Beatriz repeats this technique using circles, squares, stripes, flowers and other simple shapes.

We have enjoyed creating our own art work using this special technique. We have linked our art work to space which is our history topic this term – sketching then tracing around “planets” before printing onto our black blank canvas.

Beatriz’s work has inspired us to create our own “Art Gallery!” We enjoyed being art critics comparing and looking at each other’s work.
