Article 31: We have the right to take part in cultural activities.

Today we walked to the Millennium Bridge to take part in its 25th anniversary celebrations. When we arrived we had a tour with Rod to see how the bridge works. We saw the hydraulics that push the bridge open; the lighting that changes on an evening and for special occasions and the computer system that operates everything. After the tour, we received a commemorative pin badge and waited for the arrival of the mayor. We listened to speeches from the mayor; the architect company who designed the bridge and Martin Wilkie from World Origin Site who helped to unveil the plaque to recognise the bridge as the world’s first tilting bridge.

After a quick hot chocolate, we joined the mayor and some children from Caedmon Primary School to press the button to tilt the bridge.

After watching the bridge tilt, which we had never seen happen before, we sketched some images of the bridge before returning to school.

What a brilliant morning!
