We thoroughly enjoyed our Suffragette workshop at Beamish. Dressing up brought everything to life and really helped us put ourselves in the shoes of those who came before us. As it was in the time, we divide ourselves into groups who fought for women’s rights – whether that was using violent or non-violent ways and also represented those who continued to believe women should not be allowed to vote.

We walked through the town with placards showing our views and chanting. When we reached the bandstand we listened to all sides of the argument and debated whose side we agreed with. We then marched back from the bandstand to the main street.

After lunch we were able to enjoy some of the other areas of Beamish including the park, school and waggonway.
