Welcome to Year 6! Our teaching staff are Mr Iley and Mrs Saxby.

We have an incredibly busy year planned with learning, visits, visitors and experiences – including our upcoming residential!

This term, we are looking at the inventor Louis Braille through our English text of ‘6 Dots’, exploring and celebrating differences – a theme which carries into our guided reading text ‘A Kind Of Spark’ and our class text ‘I Am Not A Label’. In the wider curriculum, we are studying the Early Islamic Civilisation in history, printing in art, Classification in science and developing our ukulele skills further in music.

Our PE days this half term are Tuesday and Friday, where we are once again working with Gateway Studios for a local dance project as well as taking part in yoga sessions in our Friday sessions.

At South Street, we really want to instil a love of reading. Every child has been given a reading record and a reading book. We encourage every child to read each night at home and write a comment about the book in their reading record.  Regular reading has a huge impact on reading enjoyment as well as fluency and comprehension skills.

Homework will be given out every Friday to be returned to school on a Monday.  Each week there will be a grammar task and a maths task which are usually set online. Children have been given their log in details to access this. All children are encouraged to access TTRS each week to support their fluency of both multiplication and division facts as this will support many areas of the curriculum.

Attendance and punctuality are really important, so children need to be at school every day, on time and ready to learn. We have so many exciting things happening that can’t be missed!
