Year 5

Welcome to the Year 5 class page!

Mrs Taylor, Miss Ashbridge and Mrs Stevenson currently teach in year 5 with Mrs Christophers returning to the team in January.

We are really pleased to welcome the children back to school and see them so enthusiastic and ready to learn! We have lots of exciting trips and activities planned this year to enrich the curriculum and deepen the children’s understanding.

This term, as part of our English units, we are reading The Land of Neverbelieve and writing a non-chronological report. We will also be writing a character description and diary based on the book Where Snow Angels Go. In maths we will focus upon place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions in the first half of the term before moving onto measure, geometry and statistics.

In an afternoon, we will study a range of subjects so watch our class page to keep up-to-date with all the things we are learning about including a trip to visit the Bambrugh Bones to help deepen our understanding of the Anglo-Saxons.

We really want to instill a love of reading. Every child has been given a reading record and a reading book. We encourage every child to read each night at home and write a comment about the book in their reading record. We will visit the library each half term and children will get to access books from our school library too.

Homework will be given out every Friday to be returned to school on a Monday. Each week there will be a grammar related task and a maths related task.  Spellings will be handed out weekly, on a Monday, and children will be tested on a Friday. All children are encouraged to access TTRS each week to support their fluency of both multiplication and division facts.

We have P.E. on a Monday where we are currently learning Yoga and on a Thursday when we have swimming.

Remember: it’s really important to be at school every day, on time and ready to learn.
