Welcome to Year 4! We are looking forward to an exciting Autumn term together!

In English we are reading Aesop’s Fables and will be describing the features of these short stories and writing our own fables with a moral. In maths we will be studying place value and practising addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. All the children will be working hard to learn times tables up to 12×12 in Y4. The children can use Times Tables Rock Stars and Hit the Button to help them practise. We also have a login to use IR online maths games. The children will also have a log in to access maths.co.uk homework each week.

We will be going swimming at Gateshead Leisure Centre on Wednesday afternoons and playing netball on Tuesday afternoons so please come to school in your PE kit.

On the 15th September we are excited to be visiting Tynemouth Priory and the beach as part of our geography work investigating if the UK is a good destination for a holiday. We will also be visiting the Discovery Museum on 23rd November to attend a Home Front workshop relating to our history work on World War 2 . We will also be taking part in a workshop to learn about how electrical circuits are constructed so we can make our own torches.

Every week children will have spellings and maths homework. Homework will be set on Thursdays and needs to be completed by the following Monday. It is very important that your child brings their reading book in to school every day so that they can take part in accelerated reading. We also encourage reading at home with your child and you can use their reading diary to write comments too.
