Year 3

Welcome to the Year 3 class page!

Mrs McEwan, Mrs Dolan, Miss Wallace and Miss Moody currently teach in year 3.

We are really pleased to welcome the children back to school and see them so enthusiastic and ready to learn! We have lots of exciting trips and activities planned this year to enrich the curriculum and deepen the children’s understanding.

This term, as part of our English units, we are reading The Egyptian Cinderella and writing our own version of this text. We will also be exploring the life and work of performance poet, Joseph Coelho.

In maths we will focus upon place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions in the first half of the term before moving onto measurement, money, time, geometry and statistics.

We will also study a range of other subjects in year 3, which will include a visit to the Discovery Museum to help deepen our understanding of the Great Fire of Gateshead; a visit to a Hindu Temple to help us learn about Hinduism and Diwali, and a visit to Northumbria University to find out about being a geologist.

Every child has been given a reading record and a reading book. We encourage every child to read each night at home and write a comment about the book in their reading record. We will visit the library each half term and children will get to access books from our school library too.

For maths homework, we ask that the children practice their times tables for at least 10 minutes each night using Times Table Rock Stars.

Spellings will be handed out weekly, on a Monday, and children will be tested on a Friday.

We have P.E. on a Wednesday and Thursday, where we are learning basketball. Our P.E. lessons on a Wednesday take place outside and as the weather gets colder we would be grateful if you could ensure that the children are dressed appropriately.

Remember: it’s really important to be at school every day, on time and ready to learn.
