Year 3

Welcome to the Year 3 class page!

Welcome to Year 3 with Mrs McEwan, Miss Wallace and Miss Moody. We have lots of exciting trips and activities planned this year to enrich the curriculum and deepen the children’s understanding.

This term, as part of our English units, we are reading The Selfish Giant and describing the characters and settings. We will also be exploring the life and work of Wilma Rudolph after half term.

In maths we will focus upon place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions in the first half of the term before moving onto measurement, money, time, geometry and statistics.

In science we will be looking at eating a healthy diet with a whole week dedicated to cooking and nutrition.  We willl celebrate Chinese New Year through music and look at structures in DT.  In RE, we will explore Jesus’ miracles.  Our history topic is about Ancient Egyptians.  We will be learning about the artist Stephanie Peters and copying her style in a watercolour workshop.

Every child has been given a reading record and a reading book. We encourage every child to read each night at home and write a comment about the book in their reading record. We will visit the library each half term and children will get to access books from our school library too.

For maths homework, we ask that the children practise their times tables for at least 10 minutes each night using Times Table Rock Stars.

Spellings will be handed out weekly, on a Monday, and children will be tested on a Friday.

We have P.E. on a Tuesday, with a hockey coach until half term, and Friday, where we are learning gymnastics. Our P.E. lessons on a Tuesday take place outside and as the weather can be cold we would be grateful if you could ensure that the children are dressed appropriately.

Remember: it’s really important to be at school every day, on time and ready to learn.
