Reception

Welcome to the Reception class page!

Welcome back to Reception Class after an exciting Christmas break.  We are very excited to start learning in this wonderful term at school.

This is an exciting time in the year when we start to see our gardens springing to life.  We have already noticed some blossom on the trees at the front of school!  It is a good time to teach the children about growth and new life.

We will begin our learning by thinking about ourselves and how we have grown.  This gives us the opportunity to think about the past and present and to reflect on changes over time.  We will introduce an interactive calendar so that the children have many opportunities to use language of time and to anticipate exciting events. We will think about living things and what they need to be healthy and strong.  This will include exploring our own  practices with regard to health and hygiene.

As the term progresses we will explore what we can learn about change and growth outdoors.  We will find out about the life in our garden such as garden birds and new plant life.  We will enjoy identifying the birds in the garden and find out more about what we can do to help them in the frosty weather.  We will explore how we can grow food such as fruit and vegetables and will work together to start developing our amazing new outdoor learning spaces.

We can’t wait to get started.  There are also lots of celebrations and festivals this term such as Chinese New Year, Mother’s Day, Shrove Tuesday and Easter.
