Welcome to Reception: I am thrilled to be working at South Street as the class teacher alongside Miss Bellamy and Mrs Ferry. The children will be split into key worker groups which are interchangeable throughout the year.

To begin our Reception journey, our topic is Marvellous Me! The children will have lots of opportunities to get to know one another and learn about our unique families and friends. We will explore what makes each of us special, while learning how to be kind friends and care for one another. The children will also become familiar with our school and classroom rules, routines and expectations. We will learn how to care for our wonderful classroom environment using our special saying: “We choose, we play and we put it away!” This will help the children to develop their confidence, independence, and respect for the environment around them.

Throughout our topic, we will learn about our bodies: keeping healthy and safe and understanding different emotions. The children will begin to explore ways to manage their feelings and develop their self-regulation skills. To round off our first eight weeks together, we will explore celebrations; learning about Halloween and begin to discover a little about Diwali.

Reception will have daily, interactive phonics and maths sessions where they will also have the opportunity to apply their learning independently through play.

In phonics they will be taught these sounds: s a t p i n m d g o c k ck e u r h b f l as well as these tricky words: is, I, the.

Maths: Your child will secure their understanding of numbers. They will count, compare and subitise as well as share and partition.

Homework goes out on Friday and is expected back in on Wednesday.

Reading books  will also go out on the same day as homework and are expected back in on the same day too – Wednesday. (The children will receive these once they are ready for them).

P.E: We will do P.E on Wednesday mornings. Children should come to school dressed in their PE kits. (Please don’t forget to label everything).
