At Nursery, we have been baking and making special tasty snacks to share with friends. Before we started to bake, we remembered what we had learnt about cleaning our hands before handling food, so we used lots of warm soapy water to wash away the germs.

Over the past few weeks we have baked buns, ice cream and biscuits. We used lots of skills as we worked together as a team.

A they baked and cooked, the children are developed their mathematical understanding. They learnt how to weigh and measure ingredients; count out the correct spoonfuls of ingredients and measure how long it takes to cook. They heard and used many mathematical words to describe their actions including measure, weigh, heavy, light, count, minutes, fast and slow.

They learnt that they can read recipes that can inform us about the ingredients and method.

The children developed a better understanding about changing states as they added liquid to dry ingredients, heated up their mixtures and added ice to cool it down.

They also worked really hard phyically to mix, whisk, roll and transfer. Everyone enjoyed tasting their treats too!
